Feel like you again…

There’s no average menopause and many women can have hormonal changes for 5-10 years prior to their last period. These changes can make women feel more irritable, anxious, have poor sleep and brain fog. Many feel they’ve lost their sense of who they were and feel very alone.

No two women’s journeys are the same and symptoms can vary from mildly inconvenient to distressing and debilitating.

Willow Menopause was founded by Dr Nicola Chambers, a GP in the Inner West of Melbourne, who saw an unmet need for women who were struggling to access good quality, up to date and evidence based information about the journey through menopause and treatments available.

  • We strive to provide women with high quality, evidence based advice and guidance in a holistic way through midlife and beyond..

WHO WE SEE

  • PERIMENOPAUSE

51 is the average age for menopause, or the last period, but hormonal changes can affect the body for up to 10 years before this. Fluctuations in hormones can cause worsening headaches, breast tenderness and mood changes which can be cyclical, or worse before or after a period.

  • EARLY MENOPAUSE

When a woman’s periods stop before age 45 this is considered early, or premature if under40, and needs further investigation and assessment. Women can also go into early menopause after surgery or following treatment with chemotherapy for example. Many of these women feel symptoms more severely. Women may feel isolated as peers aren’t sharing this experience.

  • POST MENOPAUSE

Finally the hormonal fluctuations have settled and it’s been over 12months since a period, but due to a deficiency of particularly oestrogen, symptoms can persist and include hot flushes, mood changes and urinary frequency and vaginal dryness.

How we work

  • After booking your first consult we’ll send you a form to understand more about your situation and symptoms

  • Your first appointment in our welcoming space at All For One in Yarraville lasts for around 45 minutes and will provide you with resources for both yourself and your GP. We’ll identify any tests you may need and a treatment plan. While some women may choose to then continue with their GP most will come back to us for specific follow-up.

It’s rare to require any examinations beyond a simple blood pressure test.

We welcome and encourage a partner to attend this appointment.

  • Most women will have a review appointment two to three months after their initial appointment.

These are shorter (usually 20 minutes) and can be face to face or over the phone.

  • For regular patients prescription renewals may not require a review appointment. Depending on your symptoms, our treatment plan and when you were last seen you may be able to request a prescription online.

  • We have a simple fee structure of:

$295 for initial consults, medicare rebate of $118

$165 for 20min review, medicare rebate of $80.10

$30 for a prescription request, no medicare rebate
